Hey there, world changer!
When my grandpa was alive, we used to talk for hours about life. I remember asking him before he passed away if he felt like his life went by fast. He said, without a doubt. He shared that it felt like just yesterday that he went to seminary and remembers vividly raising his children. I think a lot about those conversations and how short life really is. The Bible refers to life as a mere breath (Job 7:7).
What’s interesting to me is that our culture today is stressed out, maxed out, overwhelmed, anxious and always striving relentlessly for the next best thing. If we don’t learn to slow down and create space for what’s important in life, we’re going to miss out on what really mattered in the first place and possibly lose track of our purpose.
When Paul wrote 2 Timothy in the Bible, they say it was the last letter he would ever write before he died. In 2 Timothy 4:6-7, he says, “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” I mean, WOW! Can you imagine declaring this at the end of your life?
My point is this, don’t lose track of your end goal in this life. Keep your faith. Find things in your life that are going to be life-giving to your soul. Shauna Niequist wrote an interesting quote about what kills a soul and what brings it to life. She said that exhaustion, secret-keeping and image management destroys a soul, while honesty, connection and grace bring it to life. Focus on what matters most in this life and keep your soul alive.
