The promise of Immanuel

The promise of Immanuel

How fitting that we conclude this mini-series on God’s promises this Christmas with the greatest promise of all, Immanuel, “God with us.”

Isaiah 9:6-7 says, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.”

Matthew 1:23 says, “Behold! The vigil shall conceive and bear a child, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us.)”

When Jesus was born, everything changed for humanity. Historically speaking, Jesus alone was one of the greatest agents of change the world has ever seen. He was fully man, yet fully God. Our heavenly Father sent Jesus into the world with the sole purpose to reunite us with Him, so that we would never be alone. Jesus displayed a love so deep and so great, we may never fully understand on this side of eternity.

Jesus was to be called Immanuel, God with us, because our heavenly Father never wanted us to experience life without him. He never wanted us to be alone. Loneliness, isolation and abandonment were fully removed when Jesus came into the world because he knew it was not good for man to be alone.

Jesus, the light of the world, dwells within you. He is not sitting in His throne room in Heaven looking down on you from afar. My friend, He is in the core of your Spirit, always with you. And, what I love most is that He does not leave you when you have a bad day or you make a mistake. He is always, always with you from now and all of eternity.

Merry Christmas,
Ashley
