Peace in the present

Peace in the present

Hey there, world changer!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the power in the “now” season, the present. I find that too often, we spend way too much of our time and energy dwelling on the past or anxiously trying to figure out our future. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be so caught up and consumed that I miss out on what God has for me now.

Isaiah 43:18-19 encourages us to “remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.” God is always doing a new thing. Matthew 6:34 reminds us “not to be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.” If God promises us that he has good plans for us and desires to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), why are we so worked up all the time?

Let me share a story with you. I still remember the night that I knew Steven was going to be my husband. As the weeks progressed, we started talking about our future together, when we wanted to get married, etc. A few months went by and I started to anxiously wonder when he was going to propose. And like the Type A, obsessive planner that I am, I started thinking through all of the details of our future together. I remember God vividly speaking to me, “Ashley, don’t miss out on this season of your relationship. I have more for you now.” I took God’s words to heart and slowed down to enjoy my relationship with Steven. And, let me tell you, I look back at that time of dating and it was one of the sweetest seasons of our relationship and we developed an even deeper friendship. I’ve found that we can sometimes get so carried away with what’s next that we miss out on what God is doing in the present.

You see, there is a grace and supernatural peace that God gives us when we are still in the present. Don’t miss out on the new thing God wants to do in your life today. In the present, there are new dreams to dream, new endeavors to pursue, new friends to make, a new side of God to discover, and blessings in the “now” for you to receive.

Embrace where you’re at and be at peace because God has amazing things for you today!
