Hey there, world changer!

A lot of times we view uncomfortable situations in our lives from a negative light, but sometimes God allows us to face challenges to focus our attention on the condition of our hearts. I am not saying that every challenge we face is necessarily from God, but he allows us to go through tough times to: 1) build our faith in Him, 2) refine our character, and 3) bring forth healing and more freedom in our lives.

Let me give you an example from my own life. A few years ago I was asked to manage a new employee. From the get go, this employee had a strong personality and I knew it was going to be challenging for me to manage her. Long story short, we continued to butt heads and one day she went to HR to file a complaint about me that I was incompetent. If I’m honest, I was really hurt by this and it started to affect my confidence in leading my team.

The more I prayed about it, the more I discerned that God wanted to reveal himself to me through the situation. What I later realized was that I was leading out of a place of people’s approval rather than God’s approval of me. He used the situation to heal me and give me a greater confidence in Him to become a healthier leader. I think so often we grab ahold of unforgiveness, bitterness and offense when we get hurt instead of allowing God to do a deeper work in us.

So I want to challenge you with this today: What if the challenge or difficulty you are facing is the vehicle God wants to use to bring forth FREEDOM in your life?

You see, it’s easy to play the blame game for the hard things happening in our lives, but it takes humility to ask God to shape and refine us. The good news is that God promises to work ALL things together for good (Romans 8:28). And, it is His desire for you to be emotionally, spiritually and mentally whole and healthy. Allow what you’re going through to bring forth greater freedom and growth in your life — it’s not always easy, but it’s worth it!
