Hey there, world changer!
Right where you are, in this present moment, are actively pursuing your God-given purpose?
I want to share a really insightful Bible story with you that stuck out to me:
“The next day, as he left Bethany, Jesus was feeling hungry. He noticed a leafy fig tree in the distance, so he walked over to see if there was any fruit on it, but there was none on it, only leaves (for it wasn’t yet the season for bearing figs). Jesus spoke to the fig tree saying, “No one will ever eat fruit from you again!” (Mark 11:12-14)
When first reading this story, it’s a little puzzling that Jesus would curse a fig tree for not bearing fruit out of season. But, after understanding the growth and reproductive cycles of fig trees, it made more sense.
Fig trees put forth what’s called first fruits, a small amount of fruit prior to the main crop. Afterward, the leaves come. Finally, the main crop or harvest follows.
So when Jesus approached the fig tree, it was the time for the first fruits of figs, but the fruit never came. This particular tree was barren, producing no figs at all. It did not fulfill its purpose.
The takeaway from this story is that Jesus was teaching us is that the outward appearance does not count with God. He looks at the condition of the heart. What counts, is that we produce godly fruit in our lives and fulfill our purpose.
You may be reading this story looking at your life confident that you are walking in your purpose OR, you may be thinking to yourself, what is my purpose and where do I even start?
The good news is this! It’s never too late to pick up the call of God on your life! Last year, I developed a 7-week study to help women discover their unique purpose. And, can I tell you? There is absolutely nothing more fulfilling and exciting than walking in purpose! You can sign up for the study here (https://ashleyjacobs.thinkific.com/courses/purposeful) !
