“Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm, and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure. For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, though a man’s misery weighs heavily upon him. Since no man knows the future, who can tell him what is to come?” [Ecclesiastes 8:5-7]
I was baking brownies in my kitchen one afternoon. I followed the recipe, and decided I was going to under-cook them just a little bit so they would be extra soft in the middle. Once I pulled them out of the oven, I could not wait to dig in right away. I may have altered the instructions (just slightly!) to accommodate my own preference, and of course, I got to the middle of the brownies and they were not cooked enough! In that moment, I heard God whisper to me, “if you don’t complete the process, the results will not be the same.” Isn’t that the truth for not only my brownies, but for our own lives?
God places us in processes and seasons for a purpose and to deliver a desirable outcome. So often, we want to cut the process short when we’re going through a time of healing, pain, or even a time of waiting, but if only we would let God complete the good work in us, the results would be “oh-so” perfect. I am a little hyper in a sense that I want things instantly, right now, on my own timetable, but when I take matters into my own hands, I always jeopardize God’s perfection. Friends, follow the process and God’s procedure. Even if it does not make sense in this very moment, trust that the outcome will be nothing short of perfection!
